Bachelor Year 4

Electives Psychology & Technology

Elective – User & Society

I was inspired by a friend and fellow Industrial Design student, to follow courses at the faculty Psychology & Technology. The two electives I did, were Introduction to Psychology & Technology and Human Factors. Both were really focused on human behaviour and cognitive processes. Introduction to Psychology & Technology was mostly about the biological side of psychology; hormones, anatomy and behaviour. Human Factors covered cognitive processes in the brain and human behaviour in

relation to the way things are designed. It dealt with ethics and usability in design and how to best manage those things. This course, to me, built the perfect bridge between psychology and design, that I had been looking for throughout my entire bachelor. It influenced and fit my vision as a designer, that had always been human-centred.These courses, were also a big push towards my decision to do the “Applied Cognitive Psychology”-master programme in Utrecht.

Tutoring

Extra-curricular – Business & Entrepreneurship, Professional Skills

I have been a tutor for the business courses Introduction to Business Design, Marketing Research & Design Methods and Innovating By Design. Approaching the course material from this perspective, made the content stick with me better.

Being a tutor made me look more critical at my own work, as well. I became more aware of the importance to support statements with research or explorations, and referencing correctly.
